Topshop browsing

So I went on a little trip to the Trafford Centre in Manchester today and obviously had a gander in all the clothes shops.  I tried these two tops on in Topshop and they are definitely on my 'to buy soon' list.  They're both very simple but I'm such a top and leggings girl I just fell in love with them.  The white top is a simple white tee which is enhanced by a beautiful sheer floral pattern.  Simple, yet effective (£24).

The second top is a yellow/green colour which is not to everyone's taste but I really like it.  I think it especially goes with brunette hair.  It is part of their basic jersey range and would be great to throw on in a rush to make an outfit stand out (£18)

New Rimmel primer and foundation

So here are the two latest editions to the Rimmel matte primer and foundation range!  I have had a love/ hate relationship with Rimmel products, with the hate usually being foundation products! So, I thought I would give Rimmel another chance to see if these new products would work on my annoyingly oily skin!

So, the first product to be put to the test was the Rimmel fix and protect pro primer (002).  It claims to smooth, resurface, brighten, mattify and protect in one.  Firstly, the smell of the Primer is beautiful, its very fresh and 'holiday-y' (you know what I mean).  The texture is also pleasing, it has a cooling effect on the skin and glides on beautifully.  I have to say that at first I thought it was going to be ridiculously greasy on my face but after half a minute it had absorbed into my skin leaving it feeling mattified, fresh and smooth.

I then went on to apply the new Rimmel Stay Matte liquid mousse foundation.  I do not really get on with mousse foundations, all the ones I have tried just don't seem to get on with my face!  But I was ready to give this one a try! The foundation has an air-whipped mousse texture and smells as delightful as the primer!  It applies nicely and evenly over the primer, but does not give as much coverage as I usually like (but this is purely because of my skin type).

I have been pleasantly surprised by these new Rimmel products.  They have finally made a primer and foundation that can take on my oily skin!  Even though they are not as mattifying as my current favourites from No7, they are definitely ones I will use again.  Two thumbs up Rimmel!

Have you tried any products from the new Rimmel range?

Shopping trip

These are two tops that I love from a trip to H&M yesterday.  The first is a white shirt with a tie collar (£9.99), it is quite sheer so you have to wear a top underneath it, but it just looks so smart and chic.  The second is a vivid print jumper (£14.99) which is so comfy and really livens up an outfit, I think it looks great worn simply with black leggings and oversized bag.

Winter prep

Well with the weather that we have had the last two days I think it is safe to say that winter is on its way. And because of this I purchased my first winter piece for this year.  The grey snood is from H&M and is only £3.99! (also available in black).  I didn't try it on in the shop but loved the colour and the knit so had to buy it!  When I got back I tried it on with my leather jacket which I will probably wear it with most and I love it!  No buyers remorse! Also my lovely kitty Calvin decided to join me in the bathroom (he insisted on a photo).

Have you started buying your winter staples yet?

P.S My jacket is from H&M and the lipstick is by Mac in 'Ruby woo'

No7 Airbrush Away primer

I'm very reluctant to try new makeup products on my face as I have really oily and blemish prone skin, so I usually just stick with the stuff I know works.  However, after repurchasing my No7 foundation and matte base I received a free No7 gift bag with a few little samples in.....and this was one of them.  The name 'Airbrush away' made me really want to try the product so I tried a small amount on the back of my hand first to see if it was oily or greasy in anyway.... it wasn't so I tried it on my face.  I was pleasantly surprised.....for a product that is not specifically made for oily skin it worked really well.  It left a smooth just-matte finish and my skin really felt like it had been airbrushed (well from what I can imagine) and my make up went on beautifully.  I did find that my skin started looking shiny again quicker than when I use my usual No7 matte base, but all in all, I was very pleased... I would definitely recommend this product if you have normal skin because it will make your makeup look fabulous!

What are your favourite primers for oily skin?

Watermelon nails!

I saw my friend had put a photo up on Instagram of her nails painted like watermelons and I had to try it!  As it is festival season (and summer) it is the perfect time to try bright experimental nail art!  I first used a Sally Hansen base coat then applied the Topshop varnish in Flamingo coral all over my nails.  When it dried I painted the tops of my nails with a Barry M varnish in Mint green.  I then used a small paint brush to paint three little black dots along the top of the pink.  I used a small black H&M polish for this. There you have it! Simple summery nails!
